Solicitor of the Year Awards 2024
When a relationship comes to an end, the decisions you face can influence your family’s wellbeing and financial security long into the future. Our knowledgeable solicitors work closely with you to provide clear, practical advice at every stage. From resolving financial concerns to putting arrangements in place for your children and addressing other sensitive issues, we’re here to guide and support you during what can be a difficult and uncertain time.
We can help you with all aspects of a divorce (including dissolution of a civil partnership)
As you may know, the law changed in 2022 so that all divorces are issued on a ‘no fault’ basis. The paperwork will simply state that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, it’s no longer possible to give a reason such as adultery or unreasonable behaviour, or to seek to assign blame for the end of the relationship. This is designed to reduce conflict and encourage parties to resolve issues in a cooperative way.
The divorce process typically takes around 7 months, as t it includes a mandatory ‘cooling of period’ after the divorce is started, before you can move on to the next step.
WE can help you with the full process, either by preparing and filing documents on your behalf with the court, or providing advice as and when needed if you chose to deal with some elements of the process yourself. We can of course also help with related issues such as diving assets and resolving financial issues, and assisting with negotiating arrangements for the children, and dealing with any court proceedings relating to those issues.
